Baby ducks! NEED ADVICE!!!

by Lilly
(FL/USA)

I just got 2 baby ducks for Easter, and I've never raised ducklings so i was mostly hoping for some food advice? What should I feed them and where do I get it? TREATS? They are still very young, and need lots of warmth (which i have been providing with heating pads.

I'd really appreciate any ideas, advice, tips...etc....
Thanks in advanced! :)

Food for ducklings
by: wendy

You can cook up any scrap vegetables and mash them and mix them with bran as well for duck food, old or young, as well as feeding duck food from a feed store. Also put down an old hessian bag and keep it watered and it will attract worms so you can just call your ducklings to feast on them every now and then. They will happily pick all the snails from the vege garden and any other insects they see, without scratching up your garden beds, like chooks will do - although they will eat your lettuce don't forget!

They will tame right up if you've a mind to spend time with them; they love a swim too on a good sunny day while they are babies so they can dry right out.

FEEDING DUCKLINGS
by: Anonymous

Chick crumbs are ideal for ducklings as well as chicks - they have all the vitamins etc that they need to help them grow and should be available from any animal feed shops. . When they get older they will eat other thing you may care to give them - ie bread, cabbage leaves. Bear in mind that what you feed them reflects in the taste and quality of the eggs they will produce - when they are of laying age - if they are female ...!

ducks

I have raised many baby chicks, 1 Pekin & 2 Muscovoy ducklings. The thing my ducks liked more than anything on earth was - WORMS! I would go around the yard with them following me & I would move things like water tubs & big rocks and if there were worms ( earthworms) underneath, they would go nuts!
Beware that ducks ( esp. male Muscovys) can be rather agressive when they mature. Ducks are also very messy and will get lots of food & droppings in their water, then splash & splatter it everywhere! But they are so cute, & a lot of fun!
