Organic farmer

One thing you need to know about weeds, herbicides and artificial fertilisers. The sudden intense change in nutrient levels in the soil from things such as superposphate and sulfate of ammonia, is that the worms and soil bacteria can't deal with it and they die. Stay organic. Weeds can be used for compost, and no doubt on a 30 acre farm you could make lots of compost. Use a seed drill, don't plough and turn over virgin soil, because effectively, over time your land will just go to shit. Ploughing exposes the soil carbon and nitrogen to the air. It becomes oxidised and you lose nutrients in the soil. STHe bacteria in the soil and some of the worms die too which limits your soils ability to improve because there won't be anything there to break down the organic matter. Try and make your own fertility, there are many books perfect for ideas. Good luck to you!

Welcome Aruna
by: Sophie Chen

Hi Aruna, this is Sophie Chen. Welcome to fantasticfarms.com.au. My parents are also farmers. What you should do to keep organic, using organic fertilizer, not using any pesticide or herbicide. Then you can install some small wind turbine and solar panels to generate the power for the farm's daily use. That is all.
