Chickens and oak leaves

by Robert Bradford

Today I read a long list of chicken toxins and found oak leaves and acorns. We have an abundance of Quercus ruba and Quercus alba. I have been using the leaves for bedding and have not had any problems. Do you think I need to change?

oak leaf bedding

I read that oak leaves & chicken poop change the gases from ammonia to carbon dioxide becoming a better environment for the birds.
I use it with no negative results.
