Grow Your Own Chicken Food

by Lori

Well i want to plant the crops so that i can feed the chickens..How much of what do I plant per chicken?

Sustainable..the perfect synario: what do you recommend? Then i want to save the seeds of some of them for the following crop..multiplication right ..So I guess I need enough to feed and then add enough to plant for the next years crop. Anyone have any suggestions, experiences or ideas to share please?

Grow your own chicken food

I have grown a patch of sunflowers for protein, corn is very easy & spinach are all mainstays that we share with the hens. They eat all veg that has gone to seed & they love cherry tomato!!

I have been wondering the same thing for my own flock. For now they eat all our scraps and forage in the garden after harvest. I have started a mealworm colony for treats/extra protein and am looking into growing millet. I live in the northeast so my growing season is short. Good Luck!

Chickens eat corn

LORI = CHICKENS EAT JUST ABOUT ANYTHING! Best bet would be corn.
