I am looking into small scale farming for a living.

No idea of how one works in the U.S. but would like information, if it can be done .

Thank you

Dervae's family Urban Homestead

Check out the Dervae's family Urban Homestead Website. They grow most of the food on their urban city home property. I believe it's 1/3 of an acre. There are tons of information about how they started and a blog of the last ten years of how they developed the gardens.

Small Scale Farming

I have answered this question once before, in great detail. Look at the post about making a living on 1 Acre in Africa and read all the responses.

I'll re-cap some of the info here.

Starting where I ended the other post. What are your goals? You will most likely not get rich (in the monetary sense) on a small acreage. You can make a living, and have a very satisfying existence on small acreages.

What do you define as "Small Scale Farming"? How and where will you market your wares? How will you pay the bills and earn income while you are waiting for a marketable crop?

In short you have a lot of research to do. I suggest you start reading (books as well as websites), and making a business plan. With good planning and reasonable goals you can do it, but there are many pitfalls.
