Why am I hatching so many baby roosters from my incubator???

by Kay
(Fremont, US)

I am new in hatching our own eggs I have have hatched 4 batches of eggs in two different incubators and I am having a problems with getting any to hatch and out of 15 chickens I have had ALL roosters except 2-3 hens at the most. Some times only 1 hen.

What is causing all the roosters and no hens.?????I keep the temp at 95.5 exact. I had a person tell me yesterday that has raised chickens for 15 years said the temp is to high and thats why I am getting all roosters. Is there any thing to that. My rooster and hens are about two years old. Please get a hold of me as soon as possible PLEASE

Kay

MEG: YOUR TEMP IS TOO LOW WHICH WOULD LOWER YOUR HATCHING RATE. I ALWAYS RUN MY INCUBATORS AT 100F (37.6C). OTHER BIGGEST MISTAKE IS INSUFFICIENT HUMIDITY AT HATCHING WHICH SHOWS UP AS FULLY FORMED CHICKS DEAD IN THE SHELL, NORMALLY DYING AFTER THEY'VE MADE A HOLE. ONLY OPEN LID ONCE A DAY DURING HATCHING TO REMOVE CHICKS AND FILL WATER RESERVOIRS, PLUS SPRAY INSIDE AFTERWARDS WITH LUKEWARM WATER. NOT SURE ABOUT THE EFFECT OF TEMP ON SEX SORRY...

6/7 hatched
by: Bernadine

I hatched 6/7 White Smooth/Frizzle Cochins in my Hova-Bator 1602N, with fan. My temp was set at 100 and I kept the humidity at 65 the entire 21 days. It's important to use a dry & wet bulb, and calibrate before you use them! You could Google wet/dry bulb if you're not sure what that is, and google how to calibrate thermometers using a glass of ice & boiling water. Happy Hatching!!

ROOSTERS
by: Michael

Hi Kay if you are using a still air incubator the temp taken with a thermostat suspended 50 millimetres above the eggs should be 39.4C if your incubator is fan forced the temp should be 37.5-37.8C as for the temp determining sex it could be i run my incubator at 37.6-37.9C and my sex ratio is approx 70% hens to roosters hope this helps cheers
